Orcas Island

July 4-6, 2002

Karin organized a weekend camping trip to the San Juan Islands for us. We all rode the ferry over the morning of July 4 then setup camp. Mary and I did a couple hikes then met back up with the group at camp for dinner and later went into town to watch the fireworks. During the night raccoons would raid our camp and in the morning crows would get whatever the raccoons left. Friday we saw more of the island and did a couple more hikes. Hung out with the group back at the campsite that night. Saturday Mary and I found a kayak trip we wanted to do. The weather and water were perfect for kayaking. We saw a bald eagle's nest and baby, but didn't get to ride any orca whales. On our way home, we stopped in Seattle for a picnic at GasWorks Park with a view of downtown.
